One of the easiest ways to make a hardware project sound stronger than it is comes from using the right technical words at the wrong time.

A schematic can be complete without a board existing. A simulation can pass without modeling the condition that fails in real life. A board can power on without meeting its requirements. A measurement can be real without proving the conclusion attached to it.

The solution is not false modesty. It is a clearer evidence state.

Designed

Designed means the requirements, architecture, schematic, layout, or other intended artifacts exist at the stated level of completion. It can include review findings and resolved design decisions.

It does not mean the physical implementation works.

Simulated

Simulated means a model produced a result under specific assumptions, inputs, tolerances, and boundaries. A useful simulation record names those conditions and explains what the model does not include.

It does not become a bench measurement because the plot looks realistic.

Fabricated and Assembled

Fabricated means the physical PCB was manufactured. Assembled means components were installed. Both are important milestones, but neither proves correct operation.

Measured

Measured means a value came from physical hardware using identified equipment, probe points, settings, and operating conditions. Good measurement notes make the reading reproducible and keep the instrument's limits visible.

Validated

Validated means the result passed a written requirement or test criterion. A green LED may be encouraging evidence. It is not a validation plan.

Keeping these states separate makes a project more useful, not less impressive. It lets someone else see where the confidence comes from, what remains uncertain, and which next test can actually change the conclusion.
